Anyone know why /r/ShieldAndroidTV is restricted?

by gnussbaum

Apologies for the bit of an off topic post, but I haven't seen posts in /r/ShieldAndroidTV for almost a week and it says it's restricted.

I don't know. I tried to post a couple things over the weekend but it was restricted and there is no mention anywhere as to why. I've posted threads in there before. Since no one has posted it would appear that no one or hardly anyone is approved anymore. I didn't notice any spamming or anything going on before this happened.

Whoever made it restricted should have posted a thread letting us know what was going on. At this point it is making it seem like the mods are trying to kill the subreddit. It was an active subreddit and now it's dead by force and the mods are keeping it to themselves as to why.

I emailed the mods yesterday morning and have yet to hear back

Don't know, but we have too many shield subs. I really hope that they will merge it into one.

/r/ShieldTV - 692 sub

/r/ShieldAndroidTV - 33k sub

/r/nvidiashield - 12k sub

/r/theNvidiaShield - 8,9k sub

WHY?

I've noticed the same for about a week too, maybe you need to be approved to see the newest/recent posts. I have requested to become an approved user, will see how it goes.

Out of the 4 or 5 dedicated Shield subs I've visited that one always seemed the most 'noob' IME, maybe they're trying to switch up/purge the user-base, if not just merge it elsewhere, still odd nothing was announced.. unless Reddit is up to more of their nonsense for whatever goofy reason?

Weird. I can access r/ShieldAndroidTV fine here. Haven't done anything on my end.

Last post was 7 days ago, Mar 12

I did add a test comment to latest post with no issue.

It seems, everyone is restricted by default. I just had to request permission, too. Let's see what happens.

Thank you for making the post /u/gnussbaum.

I was wondering what was going on.

This is such a shame if the sub is now locked down as it was my primary source of information about ShieldTV, due to the Nvidia forums new layout being so bad :(

I noticed that the main mod over there, James, was posting yesterday in another subreddit after being absent for a few weeks. Did anyone get a reply to their messages to him?

Before this I was thinking it may have been restricted by mistake and he didn't know. But now he definitely knows and did not take off the restrictions. If no one heard from him, it would seem it was done on purpose to kill the subreddit.

FYI - the ShieldAndroidTV sub is active again.
