It works on other android TVs (like on my shield tv)
AFAIK, NBC only provides a live feed if you have a TV Everywhere login (from a cable company or a similar provider like YouTube TV) and if your area is served by an NBC owned and operated station. Otherwise, your best option is to use an antenna, assuming that you are able to get reception.
If you don't have a paid TV provider (cable, satellite, etc) that you can sign in with then you will only be able to watch a week after air through the app.
They do give you a few credits when you sign up (I think it was 3) to watch a few shows without a provider but after that you're out of luck. I guess you could keep creating new accounts every 3 shows you watch but that would get annoying for me.
