How to get NTFS storage to work on Android tv.

by gpz1987

Since android 8 we have not got a elegant NTFS storage solution. I was able to plug my hard drive in, use Kodi for playback and gave it a Netflix interface. Can't do that now, I know there apps out there that access the ext hard drive, JS otg USB for one, but you can't access storage through Kodi. Any solutions anyone? Seems like config issue as mi Box and shield support NTFS storage.

Was struggling with this until an hour ago . The solution for me was to download exFat and ntfs reader from paragon and total commander to access the files

Why use ntfs at all ? Ntfs is a windows file system. Why not use exFAT ?

I had the same problem with my TCL Android TV, and I found two solutions:

The better one and the one that I'm using right now is a firmware downgrade to android 7. I found the old firmware online and then I flashed it with a factory reset. I have no issues with DRM certification and the NTFS support is working well. I've also removed all the bloatwares with ADB and this old firmware is less laggy than the newest one with android 8. Obviously you have to disable automatic update.

The first solution I found was Total Commander with his old plugin "USB stick plugin". It was inconvenient because I was able only to read files from the app. It won't mount the drive as an external drive, so you can't make a Kodi library. I tried everything before this one, Paragon's app, JS USB app, ect. but they didn't work.

Buy a pi4 and set it up as a samba server. Share your NTFS drive from the pi. It’s cheap and it works

I use total commander file manager. Shield TV .

put hard drive on a windows PC and share it as a SMB drive to your android TV.

Only problem is youll need a PC that is always on.

What are you on about ?

The Mi Box S is fine with NTFS hard drives and Kodi:
