Android tv box or android tv?

by shaharh41

Hello, i used to have a mi box s connected to a dumb tv but after a lightning strike destroyed my tv and mi box i ordered a tv with android tv built-in. The tv is the sony xg950 and i was wondering if it will do the same stuff i need from it (kodi, fire anime and unlockmyttv) or should i buy a new mi box?

Personally I prefer a box. Neither an android tv or box is guaranteed to keep up to date with the latest OS, however it's much cheaper and easier to upgrade to a new box than it is a new tv. Just my 2c :)

Nvidia Shield.

The new generation 2019 Sony XG950 and XG850 have a much more powerful new MediaTek chipset in them vs virtually all Sony's Android TV's that have come before.

That new MediaTek chipset and it's GPU is noticeable more powerful vs what is in a 2016 era Mi Box.

X950G will even rival a Nvidia Shield in a bunch of operations.

X950G Picture quality, including AI Object Based - Super Resolution upscaling of non 4K content will be about the best you can get from anything.

The X950G's excellent X1 Ultimate picture processor, really does produces great picture output results.

So yes you will be able to install and Sideload all the same stuff on to the X950G that you have previously on the Mi Box, it will perform even better. A Mi Box (or even a Shield) really are unnecessary.

You will be fine or even better

Apps and updates. I find that TV makers abandon their software pretty soon after they launch new hardware.

The TV should be as good as, or better than, a box. But personally I am equally concerned with malware or the like. I can live with my box being bricked but wouldn't want that to happen to a much more expensive TV. For that reason I'd always use a box for Kodi and some other apps but use the TV for other things like Amazon Prime or Netflix.

You should find yourself a TV box to find Switchonshop. This is a cool store, and at prices there is a complete order.

It will be mostly the same

You probably wont get dolby vision on mi box but x950g has it in built in netflix and so son

It really depends what you’re using it for. If you’re just using it for stuff like Netflix, the Android TV is fine. I have an Nvidia Shield Pro. If you want to use Kodi, Plex or plan to use it for gaming, this is the way to go.

As I said, I have the Shield and I think I’ve used it twice thus far this year. I personally find it to be overkill.

Ultimately, I think the Android TV and Shield interface (they are exactly the same, basically) are butt ugly, too.
