Sorry I dont have the link but I read yesterday some dudes were able to set up the harmony with the Shield and got the voice button to work. I think it had something to do with setting the device up manually as a Windows PC or something like that. I think he hooked up a cheap USB mic to the Shield for voice commands.
I almost went through this but it seemed like a hassle and tbh I can live with less talking to technology. What exactly do you miss using the assistant for if you dont mind me asking?
I hear that you can have your Harmony remote send the keycode to start voice search (at least on Shield TV). As for a mic, the PS3 Eye webcam is $8 new at Amazon and $2 used at GameStop.
I use Eye with my non-Harmony universal remote and Flirc. A button does in-app voice search and (with long press) Google Assistant voice search.
Maybe configure a Google home mini
