Cant login on Nvidia Shield!

by abmyusufi

So I bought a brand new Nvidia Shield from a private person (It was was new, sealed and with plastic around each and everything). But I think it might be the 2015 model.

So basically I am trying to set it up and but I can't get past the sign in screen with a google account..

So I need to know, do you know any workaround or solution for this? I can't even use the Shield, its no good unless I sign in.. I am about to break the TV and the shield into pieces..

This is the error I get, and I have been trying checking for typos and everything, still same .. It gives me the option use the code by going to www.androidtv.com/setup , but it also fails

One thing that comes to mind is that you could have 2fa enabled on your Google account. Try and create a new Shield specific application password in your Google account and give that a whirl at sign in time.

Another thing that comes to mind is that if this is a 2015 Shield model that's been sat in the box for four years and never switched on, it could have an old version of Google Play Services installed on it that no longer works with the Google server side.

I've never manually flashed a Shield but if you end up totally stuck, it might be worth pursing manually flashing the latest available official Shield ROM from Nvidia.

Lol...the error message seems pretty clear to me :)

Try to disable ipv6 and update.

Also - are you using any kind of PiHole or other ad-blocking service in the house? Try disabling that if so.

Skip the sign in just setup ur box 1st then do that later into the settings by adding accounts or seting your playstore might work that way

I would make a new Google account, sign in with that and then add your old account after setup.

Do you have pihole or some other network level add block on?

Hey guys thanks for all the replies and recommendations!

Actually same day, as I wrote the last, messaged I came to think of how I updated my OnePlus 5 to Android Pie way before it was available to my phone. So I applied the same method to my Shield and voila I got it updated to 7.0 first, for some reason the newest Android version didn't work.

I booted into fastboot by unplugging the power and holding the shield touch button while I plugged the power back, then I used ADB to unlock OEM bootloader and flash version 8 first, then 6, then 7 finally worked. After booting up I had some smaller issues that were quickly gone when doing a full update within the system. So now I am fully up and running and couldn't be happier :D

Did you try what I mentioned in the other post in the other subreddit?
