Hulu video stops/stutters (audio keeps playing) after Mi Box S latest OS update

by benmehling

Help me! Wife is pissed she can't watch This Is Us. 🙄

I've since gone into the Play store and made sure every ATV sub system/service was at the latest version available.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Hulu.

I've rebooted and rebooted and rebooted.

Side note: since the upgrade the device has hung a handful of times requiring i pull power. More often than last release.

Any ideas?

I can confirm the issue, but I'm not aware of a fix. Version 2.1.3 works correctly, but you'll lose profiles, live channels and premium channels like HBO.

I caved and bought a 2019 shield pro to appease the wife.

Not that this is super helpful, but my 2015 shield tv does the same thing. Nothing has worked to fix it.

UPDATE: I spent 40 minutes on a chat w/ hulu..

  • had me reboot, etc. (didn't solve it)
  • tested w/ different shows/episodes (happens w/ all of them)
  • verified my bandwidth was acceptable (130 Mbps)
  • they cleared out all my account 'cache' (didn't solve it)

I had to move on w/ my day... that night I re-tested w/ Hulu on our older (crappy) Sony Bravia w/ embedded ATV. Initially it exhibited the issue on an episode we'd previously tried to watch on the MiBox S, but I restarted the episode and it played fine (full episode).

All fingers point toward the MiBox S upgrade that I performed a couple weeks ago. Grrrr.

I can confirm the issue, Response from Hulu, " Our app does not support Android TV"

I can download it from the store and install it run it.. but it does exact same thing stutters or buffers, stop playing with error messages. When i called that is what they told me, and seriously told me to buy a Amazon Fire TV 4k stick.

Which is funny because amazon video does the same damn thing on my android TV.

Conspiracy maybe?
