basically i only use 2 apps. Hulu and Kodi to watch stuff off my usb drive. every morning i have to reboot and every evening when i return home...same.... or else any video, usb-based or streaming stutters like mad... any ideas would be helpful.

Don’t think so. :\ I have my media on a hdd connected to the device.
Same problem since I've owned the device. Limiting background processes helped, but did not solve it permanently. Haven't found a long-term solution for this.
Im having the same problem! When I bought it about a year ago everything was great and even works with my Google Home too. For a while now the box starts lagging and a reboot only fixes it temporarily. Google home is a lost cause with the box. So frustrating!!
I might upgrade to the latest one before I jump off the cliff.
Try nova player. Kodi was giving me issues depending on the skin and such after the 17 upgrade. Nova is simpler but works fine for me
Yeah nova video player is pretty great
I had slow down issues on mine when I first bought it using 3 or 4 apps at the most. I went into developer settings and set the maximum number of background processes to 2 and it has been running great ever since. I think since I did that (early December 2019), I have only rebooted it once and that was because of a power failure, not a performance issue.
