How do I turn on subtitles in VLC for Android TV when it’s a separate file?

by CPT-812

The subtitle file is in the same folder as the video file, and has the exact same title. I thought it would turn on automatically as it does for VLC on desktop or mobile but it doesn’t. And even when I try to select subtitles it doesn’t work. I can’t even select them anymore. I tried downloading them but when I do it doesn’t confirm that the download has been made. It’s so frustrating.

I get the same problem with Kodi. Kodi acrually detects the subtitles, has them selected but doesn’t show them either.

Can someone please walk me through it step by step? Thanks.

It seems to be broken for me as well but I managed to get it to work when there were multiple subtitle files and scrolling down starts to highlight them. You can also try download and manual search.

Just renamed the subtitle file exactly like the video file and It will play automatically
