When you soft power-off an AndroidTV, why does it disappear from network (to chromecast)?

by a1b3rt

On my old setup ...the chromecast was plugged into a dumb TV via HDMI with ARC enabled. I could keep the TV in soft power down and still get it to power on automatically and switch to the right input by simply casting to that chromecast from my phone.

I recently upgraded to a 4K Hisense AndroidTV with built in Chromecast .

When I keep TV in soft power off mode (not shut down) ..the it seems to disappear from network altogether.

I would like to have the same freedom to power up chromecast on demand by simply casting from any phone or app. Don't want to have to pick up the remote first to power up the TV. Any solution for this? Thanks.

If you go into settings, wireless and networks, wired or WiFi and then “switch on with chrome cast”.

You Can then use chrome cast to turn on the tv.

Google said casting while the TV/device is in sleep mode is still NOT supported, but you can show support in this thread of Google's Issue Tracker, the more the merrier: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/66435696

Some manufacturers implement power saving modes differently.

So what is the best recommendation to work around ? Prevent the box from ever sleeping?
