Is there any way to improve Xiaomi Mi Box S performance ?

by XDavidT

My device stuck until reboot. Work very laggy after sleep. I have only 6 apps, trying to update the system but found nothing. Anyone familier with that ?

Turn off standby / HDMI CEC settings. This solved the same issue for me.

I am very happy with my Mi box S. i am on Oreo8.1 and will never update it so long as it does what it is supposed to do. Dont fix it if it aint broken! Learnt that lesson the hard way.

I'm facing the same issues in MiBox 3, tried resetting the device but didn't help. Also facing major Wifi issues from the start. This device is such a drag. Alot of improvements need to done on software side.

Maybe a factory reset? Mine is working perfectly almost

Try to reboot. That device has poor specs and is poorly supported.

Never enter standby. It is a known bug unfortunately. Besides that, it is basically lagging anyways. At least, ours... Our solution was buying a nVidia shield pro. The Xiaomi Mi Box S is Just a development box now.

Got my box about 2 weeks ago and had same issue and was told it was HDMI CEC (Go into settings and toggle it). Incredibly, my Samsung doesn't even support it yet it must have something because that was the problem.

Box has worked perfect since.

Both of my first gen Mi Box's work great and still do after three years of use. I have around ten apps installed on both. No games. No sideloading of apps.

I go a couple months between reboots. The only time I reboot is when google updates the android main screen app. Then I reboot just to be sure it loads correctly.

I own 2 different versions. 1 Mi Box 3S 1 Mibox S

With the 3S model I've faced some issues with wifi too a long time ago. After manually flashed 2165 & 2179 firmwares it solved my problems with it. Notice that i always factory reset it early and after the fash of any firmware. It always will self update to the latest official firmware but it will be clean. With newer S model it runs flawlessly with 5ghz wifi network, never connected it to 2,4ghz network. Try to enable developer mode at mi box and activate destroy activities when exit, then your mi box will force close apps when you exit them. Maybe it helps. Consider also to buy a usb/ lan adapter to the mi box connection.

Sorry to say it's the Mi Box. I had those performance issues all the time on mine and ended up getting a Shield TV when it was on sale for $120 on amazon last winter. Haven't looked back the thing is super fast.

In the budget space, and if you do not need Netflix, the S905X2 chipset 4GB RAM MECOOL KM3 and KM9 Pro's running Android TV Pie are snappier devices.

They include a newer, more powerful ARM-Mali G31 GPU which speeds up the graphics rich Android TV OS noticeably, for day to day usage.

Apple TV is solid
