Philips 4K TV slow and buggy

by evjamhar

Just got a Philips 4K TV for Christmas. I am not an android user otherwise, so I’m not super familiar with the OS. But this is super buggy. I will try to turn the volume up/down and it won’t respond for 15 seconds if at all. The video lags almost all the time. Any way to fix it? Could I downgrade to a older but more stable version of the OS? I just want a functional TV.

ETA: not sure why I’m getting downvoted. Just genuinely asking for help.

What model is it? You could try to factory reset it.. but as far as I know downgrading is almost never possible. Maybe try to upgrade to the latest version

You're not really going to have any control of what they do with the OS. Best thing is to add a device and bypass the TV as much as possible. I have the 65inch Black Friday Phillips TV. While I don't have the issues you mention, it's still not nearly as good as any of my devices but I expected that going in.

Yea..Phillips TVs are just shit. I'm in Asia and my TV is the same..right out of box.

I wanted a 'dumb' TV for the reason that I'd rather get an external box that I can continually upgrade, but that 'dumb' TV didn't lag but the screen died on me within warranty. Sent it back and Phillips sent me a newer 'smart' TV..lags worse than turtles stampeding through peanut butter.

You probably opened too many apps, if you reboot the tv it will be much snappier. Remember it has only 2GB RAM compared to phones that have 4 or even 8GB+ nowadays.

I realize this is over two years old but also that’s it’s never been answered. So in case anyone else has this issue, the solution is pretty simple and there two different way to go about it.

First off, this issue occurs because your Smart TV uses memory just like your phone or PC. The more apps you run on your TV, the more memory your TV uses and when the memory gets low, the TV can start to run a little slow. It may take a while to turn on, the apps may take longer to start, or the menu may take longer to load.

Now how to fix this issue? Discharging or cold booting your TV will help it start up normally again. There are two ways you can do this. Both methods are quick and easy, but one requires you to use the remote that came with your TV

— With the TV Remote —

  1. With the TV turned on, press and hold the power button on your Samsung TV remote.
  2. Continue holding the power button while the TV powers off and then back on.
  3. You have just cold booted the TV. The memory cache is cleared and the TV should run more smoothly.

— Without the TV Remote —

  1. With the TV turned on, unplug the TV's power cord from the power outlet.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet.
  4. Turn the TV on.
  5. You have just discharged the TV. The memory cache is cleared and your TV should start running normally again.

This worked perfectly for mine, as I had the same exact problem as described. Remote would take 15 seconds to respond, if at all, and it was so frustrating and slow that I couldn’t even navigate to HDMI to use a different device.
