Developer with spare time looking for ideas

by oboka2000

I'm a developer and I've been thinking for some time now to create an app for Android TV. I'm really eager to do something for my TV but I don't really have a need that makes me advance in this. So, I'm here to ask for any ideas that you would like to have in your TV.

It can be a game, or an info app, an app that deals with video would be a little harder for me, but I can give it a try too. Maybe a game you can play connecting your phones? Something with maps? A party music player?

I can grant you a free license for the app if I choose your idea :)

Thanks

I find all 3rd party launcher/homescreen options mediocre (that I have tried). I am OK with the functionality of the native launcher but it has sponsored content that you cannot disable.

A light weight 3rd party launcher that has good performance without ads would be something I think any Android TV user could benefit from.

edit: this is on my Sony XBR900F

An app that slideshows cards from the Main Page of Wikipedia. Mixture of “current events” and “this day in history”. And every 20th card a QR code to donate to Wikipedia.

Ekos640

Live Channels TIF plugin for Plex playlists in shuffle/random order. Everyone loves to create apps that are almost this, but none go all the way to being what a lot of people actually want; leaving users who desire this with blue balls.

you can make a virtual mouse app, i would like to use my android phone's touchscreen as mouse.

I like to suggest that you consider coding an Android TV version of the official Home Assistant Android app

https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2019/11/20/release-102/

The official Home Assistant Android app is basically a remote-control/front-end companion-app for Home Assistant

https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant-android/

The app should allow checking cameras as well as see sensors and change the state of devices like lights.

RETROPLAYER, a player that allows to use scanlines and adjust video window in order to use overlays of old TVs that we could design, this could be a neat app to use when watching 4:3 videos.

Something like what retroarch does with games (but just using overlays to generate the scanlines and TVs, check this link (with some of the overlays that I have made for retroarch) to get an idea:

https://forums.libretro.com/t/exodus-crt-tvs-overlays-collection-with-day-and-night-support/9192

Retroarch does video, but it's support its pretty limited, it doesn't even allow us to use external subs.

Please develop an app that takes in a video link of live video channels and shows them up on Android TV

closetfurry2017

perhaps a TV optimised reddit viewer?

Another idea is to copy the concept of "Frameo" digital photo frames but with an Android TV app

https://frameo.net/

It would allow friends and family to easily to share photos and videos with you from their phone.

Frameo's concept works especially well with less technical people like parents or grandparents.

i wrote this a few months back https://old.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/cdotq7/anyone_know_of_a_screensaver_that_has_weather/

i'd like to add to it now that anything stationary should move around every few minutes to not harm oled and plasma tvs

LiquidPoint

Something that could distribute the screen live to other devices around the house... Or at least the current live channel to a Chromecast.

Something where I can access the settings remotely so I don't have to interrupt my daughter watching a movie, if I want to change something or sideload an app.

A music player with an a companion app on the phone to control it without having to turn on the TV. I t would have the ability to play file from the box, NAS, USB, SMB shares. etc. The app on the phone can serve as the main one because it's easy to create playlist on the phone. Concept is a bit like spotify connect but with local files.

And may I add the phone app can also handle mutli-room audio with most dlna enable wifi speaker

I need an app for my Sony Bravia that can give me both a sideshow from my NAS (selected picture folders etc.) and play music from (selected different music folders on) the NAS at the same time. I don't care if I have to always set one running first, then the other, as long as when e.g. the slideshow finishes, I can just choose another picture folder (or not, if it's set to loop) without disrupting my music playlist, and vice - versa. Happy to help you debug it!

A solid music visualizer would be awesome. I miss the days of milkdrop.

There are some out there for Android TV but so far everything I've tried sucks.

A simple video podcast player that supports adding xml feeds. It is hard finding one the supports video properly. Standalone. Possibly with channel support.

I would love to have something that could schedule a channel for me.

Monday play next episode from Netflix, then next would be show Y from next source or whatever

Tueday Play A from amazon then B from next source and C from Netflix.

Allow me to make a listing so I can know Monday nights are Brooklyn 99 night, but on Thursdays I'll watch ST the next generation and Saturday is for crazy cartoons

PalebloodSky

A File Manager that is as fast, functional, stable and ad free as X-plore but with a modern interface. That would be a big undertaking I imagine.

Good luck! TV is tough. Especially since it's so fragmented it's really hard to find a lot of users just on Android TV.

Speaking from experience.... www.marketcast.co

Android TV needs a customisable guide spg style ala PseudoTV

1)Desperately Need good app to sideload apps. Current store has limited apps. Download directly to tv or download on phone and then send apk to tv. 2) list google assistant commands to control tv / or remote app that trigger google assistant commands.

An Android version of YACReader would be awesome.

Even if it's just a black themed iOS port on Android/AndroidTV.

A good terminal emulator.

I'm not techy so don't jump on me. Make an app for my Mi Box S where if I'm live streaming a say football game, I want the option to turn the commentators voices too silence and just listen to the crowd sounds. I don't if it's possible or what?

Do you have a TV with far field mic? Sony 950, Philips 24 inch, probably more announced at CES. Would be interesting to have an auto dictation app, and or auto translate app. Suspect there are public APIs that can do the heavy lifting.

Maybe easier would be just a sound recorder for Android TV.
