A lot of tv apps are dark, Netflix, Sling, Disney plus is pretty dark. IDK about you but I don't like a blinding white screen in my dark room. Darker UI is easier on the eyes.

Imagine using light mode. Especially on a TV...
It's always on Dark mode on all of my streaming devices (nVidia Shield, Mi Box S, and Roku Express ). I think it might be controlled by the server and not the client.
Android app is always asking me if I am still watching all of a sudden. Annoying af.
Check your settings.
I think it's only dark mode for Android TV.
