Amazon Prime video cast sucks

by dagp89

My tv has inbuilt Chromecast and a lot of apps have the cast option, but by far Prime video has the worst casting experience I've ever had. I try watching something and it gets stuck constantly, like it gets stuck every 20 mins into a movie and I need to close the app and try casting again. And it it just keeps buffering and maybe continue playing or else I'll have stop and try again, it's just a horrible experience overall.

No other app has these many issues when casting, it's like Amazon is forcing us to buy the firestick to get a better experience.

My tv has Android 8.0 and I tried side loading prime video but that also doesn't work as it constantly crashes and sometimes restarts the tv.

I don't understand why you're not just using the Prime Video app on your TV. If you prefer to browse for content on your phone or tablet you can cast it and then go to your Prime Video app on your TV and just select 'recently watched' to watch it on your TV without any of that fuss. The industry completely screwed up casting and it'll end up just like instant messaging, fragmented and mostly useless. I have a Nvidia Shield, and it has a Prime video app, I'm not at all certain whether or not such an app exist on embedded Android TV.

I have similar casting issues as the OP with Amazon Prime casting to my Android TV (Chromecast built in), but zero issues casting to my actual Chromecast. Most things cast to the AndroidTV just fine, Amazon Prime sometimes works, sometimes just gets stuck loading. Not sure what's different between an actual Chromecast device and 'chromecast built in' but they aren't the same experience. I'll be ditching my AndroidTV (Mi Box S, not the Nvidia) as soon as the Chromecast Ultras go on sale again.

When you cast something first it tries to see if it can ask the app on the TV to stream else it will be more like screen mirroring(your app on the phone streams from internet and the phone sends it to TV with a max bandwidth of 5 mbps. Since your tv doesn’t have amazon app, by casting you are limited to 5mbps bandwidth between your phone and TV. This causes playback issues while streaming content which requires more than 5 mbps bandwidth. You will see the same issue with any app which doesn’t have an app for your TV and tab casting from chrome. Hope this helps

Built in Chromecast does not have all of the features of a stand-alone Chromecast device. The stand-alone is much more robust.

Prime app sucks hard. It gives me an error if I use a bt headset with it.

No issues on a Chromecast ultra. Inbuilt chromecast suck balls.

Which version of the app did you sideload? I did a sideload on my Jetstream 4k box, it's working like a charm. I'll check the version.

It's always buffering or no sound it's just horrible.

Well I had to use the cast feature when it wouldn’t play for some reason in app.

It worked fine for me,

Maybe stop using crappy smart tv... get shield or something

My Bravia is on 8, and it has a native Prime app. There is zero need to sideload it
