Does TCL Android TVs always recieve the latest ATV updates?

by PocketKent

I'm planning to buy an Android TV from TCL, and aside from the resolution, quality, bla bla, I also check this thing. Do they? (e. g Oreo to Pie)

They are kept fairly recent but the software is riddled with bugs .

Here is a longgg thread discussing the issues on every firmware update since they came out.

My biggest issue is the instant on doesn't work so every time you turn it on it takes around two minutes to fully boot

I have the current model android TCL and don't like it. Apps are limited some do not work. Very slow to do anything and riddled with bugs. keeps causing errors on usb hard drive is just one example. I have an Nvidia shield and love it. It being so good is probably the reason I do not like the TCL. And I have never got updates for it even checked manually while the shield has been updated multiple times during the same timeframe.

Nothing really received timely Android updates besides Google Pixel products and the Nvidia Shield TV.

Unfortunately as good as the Shield TV is, the remote on the last gen is terrible and I have these weird power on bugs fairly often with Android Pie that Nvidia has still not resolved.

Which country do you find these TCL TV's with Android? All the ones I can find in the US have Roku as the OS.

I bought a current model (55X4US) a couple of months ago and it has Android N on it, no updates have ever been pushed to my TV but I kinda hope they don’t because although it’s older software, the newer software sounds buggy as hell on TCL TVs.

I hate my TCL smart TV. Better off buying a regular TV with an nVidia shield or something like that

I actually chuckled after reading the title of your post.

NO man, more or less none of the AndroidTV manufacturer push updates timely and TCL is definitely not among the better ones. I've got a 65" AndroidTV (model - percee TV) from TCL that is still on Android 7 with 5 December 2017 security patches.

Most AndroidTV will only receive one Android update after their inital launch.

I've TCL 65EP680 since january and I was very happy with it, but I needed to install no compatible apps with aptoide (sideloading) like Primevideo.

However, today 24 March here in Catalonia has deployed Disney+, and I was very pleased to see the app in the official app channel of TCL Android P.

But it's not working...yes the app shows the menus and so on, but when I select any title for streaming it hangs with a spinning wheel.

Then I tried to get support in his webpage... ended with a 404 error. Lame.

Only from https://www.tcl.com/es/es/service/service-model.html/65EP680 I was able to dowload a firmware (v252) but I can't see my version then I don't know if this firmware is newer and if it will solve anything.

If anyone has information, would be nice, because I want some info of this firmware update Before doing the obvious thing as trying.

Amazingly, I got Pie yesterday with my TCL Android TV that I bought during the time I posted this, around December.
