I am thinking of upgrading my 2nd gen Fire TV box which has 4k support, but no HDR.
For Cyber Monday (and hopefully for Boxing day as well), the Fire TV Cube has been reduced to £80. So, I can trade my old FireTV for it. I want to upgrade because I can't get Apple TV on the Fire TV box, neither does my 2017 Samsung 4K TV is getting it. I also want to play my local collection of 4K HDR mkv files.
Does anyone here own the Fire TV Cube and has used it to stream or play local files - 4k, HDR content - from a USB drive, either from a SMB, using Plex, Kodi, VLC - and does it buffer or have issues with codecs?
My overall choice for sticking with the Amazon devices is because of the integration with Alexa, and Amazon Prime, and that I can still sideload apks if I wanted to.
Hope someone here can help me. Thanks.
