Philips 5504 series "Can't open that right now" when attempting to switch inputs

by CaptinStabN

Picked up the 5504 series at Walmart for Black Friday. Day 2 trying to use the damn thing and the input switching button on the remote is no longer working, and I am getting this error every time I try to switch inputs using the input option on the Home screen. I've rebooted the remote, rebooted the TV, and even did a factory reset on the TV, but still see the issue. I will try to get ahold of Philips tomorrow to see what they suggest, and I'll update here with the resolution (if any).

I'm pissed because I am familiar with Android TV (I have two Mi Boxes), and I was drawn to the thought of having a TV with it installed natively. Has anyone else seen this issue with this or any other TV running Android?

Edit 1: Error message actually reads "Can't open this right now." Sorry about the mistake in the post name.

Edit 2: I forgot to mention that I had all the latest updates installed, and everything was working fine on Day 1.

Edit 3: Initial contact with customer support was unproductive. "24-48 business hours" before I'll hear anything back. I assume they'll want to send out a tech. I paid 278 bucks, I don't think it's worth waiting for a week or more to get repaired/replaced. I'll probably just return it.

Edit 4: I exchanged it for a Vizio that doesn't have Android TV. In the end I wasn't willing to wade through the support process. Leaving this post up though in case others encounter the issue.

Hey! I too managed to get it, however I got it online during the 1 minute it was up.

The input switcher works just fine here. Have you tried updating your TV? It might sound like it shouldn't help, but I noticed on your input switcher, mine says "live TV Tuner" while yours says "channels"

Does it happen on every input, or just XBOX?

I purchased the same TV. Opened it turned on flickering white lines that haven't stopped. I called customer service with no resolution or call back. Phillips sell bad TVs this isn't a coincidence. It's why I always buy Visio or Samsung. That explains the cheap price.Walmart has had a lot of returns on that TV&just wanted to get rid of them and sell consumers bad TVs.

Same thing just happened to me. Only had the TV since Black Friday. Did a factory reset and now I have inputs again. For how long who knows.

You probably were unlucky and received a bad unit, can happen with any brand or tv model.

I just had this issue and figured out the problem on my end. It looks like because I disabled the live TV app on the TV, it made it so the inputs would not work. When I enabled the app again, it seemed to work fine.

Been having the same issue then I seen someone said that disabling the apps will do this so I disabled and now it’s working. I see it’s a year too late but I’ve literally had no issues with this tv at all.

Go to settings, all apps, and at the very bottom chick onto the disabled app that has to do with the TV and enable.

I’ve had so many problems with android tv. Fuck android!!!

Enabling the disabled tv app worked
