Getting really tired of not being able to watch the Democratic Debates on my Android TV without casting from my phone

by JoeCoT

For the second time the debates have only been available from News android apps. Last time they were on CNN, and could only be watched on the CNN Go app. Today it's only available on the NBC News app or the Washington Post app.

In both debates, I installed the apps on my Android TV, and there was no live tv option. After playing around with them for far too long, I pulled out my phone, found the stream right there in the app, and casted it to my tv without a problem.

Isn't half the point of Android TV to be able to use these apps natively? Why are all these apps providing crippled versions on Android TV, and full versions on my phone? I'm getting very tired of app devs -- who are making video streaming apps -- treating Android TV like an afterthought.

Not missing much

The point of Android TV is to provide a platform. It's not the platform's fault that the app developers/content owners want to drag their feet and make shitty decisions.

OTA FTW

Leaving aside the matter of why anybody other than the 538 electors whose votes actually count would care, have you looked at apps like Haystack?

NBC has a live tv option by the way. It took me way too long to find it but:

NBC app - > networks -> MSNBC - > Login -> NBC app home -> live channels -> scroll to MSNBC

It's nothing to do with Andoroid TV at all. The debates are all over Android TV but not for free. MSNBC and CNN are on every live streaming service except AT&T Now.
