Thursday Night NFL Games in 4K on Prime Video or FOXNOW app?

by thatainteggnog

Are NFL games on Thursday night football in 4K? On Apple TV and Roku, they are in 4K using FOXNOW app and Prime Video app. I tried this past Thursday on my Nvidia Shield TV, but didn't see any logos for 4K like the ones that appear on Apple TV and Roku.

I haven't found any information about Android TV regarding this.

Your not missing much, its just upscaled 1080p.. they dont have high speed UHD cameras on the field.. only thing it brings to the table is HDR.

Pretty sure it’s just for appletv and roku, for now.

Not supported currently on Shield.

Anyone with a 2019 Shield and an Apple TV or Roku have any comparison thoughts? I know the enhanced AI only does 30fps, but thought the upscaled image might be better overall.

On the FuboTV app 4K works (NFL streams and European Football) but the audio seems to fall behind the broadcast on NFL and I have to leave the channel then go back to sync again also it is NOT actually 4K it is being upscaled. Works on ShieldTV and Roku TV FuboTV app which you can get a 7 day trial of before Thursday. (Edit: added more info)

It has been widely discussed.

  • Fox's THU night NFL feed is not shot in 4k, but rather in 1080p, upscaled to 4k. Long term is to have cameras (including slo-mo) in 4k.
  • It was reported it would be available digitally/OTT in HDR, but that has not materialized. Some cable customers *might* have HDR feeds, but it would be a small percentage of viewers
  • The Prime Video feeds for the THU night NFL game (to date) have not been in 4k, at least on the hardware I have accessed from.
  • I access 4k feed on my Apple TV 4k using the Fox Sports app (FOXNOW probably works the same, I would guess) via my YouTube TV
  • I do not believe any Android TV app includes 4k playback yet.
