I agree. Android TV on a set top isn't as good as a separate Roku. Never been a fan of built in streaming TV's but I'll admit for the basics Roku tvs do well - antenna TV support, plus in a USB to time shift, and a dedicated Netflix button (what most use).
Google home works with Roku? I haven't even tried it.
This is why I say to buy a TV on picture alone and then use a separate box for smart features. Software and hardware performance will never last as long as a display will.
Lol I'd never buy a Roku. The damned interface hasn't changed since the original.
Hopefully you spring for the ultra Roku so you could get the two additional programmable buttons. Considering upgrading my own Roku as well with that awesome new hardware it's packing and the two additional programmable buttons but might wait until that sexy remote goes on sale and just upgrade the remote later instead.
Netflix issue has been fixed on the shield as far as I'm aware. I never had the issue in the first place and also have a shield and Roku both anyway so I guess I have all bases covered. Sorry to hear it's been so rough for you but it should be working good now after the patch that recently came out.
