Is that TV really 4k?

by i_dont_know557

Okay, so my very first post here.

Hello guys, i was looking to a buy a new 4k television. One product in particular, piqued my interest, but then i saw an image posted by a reviewer which showed CPU-Z(an app to check the specs pf your android device) running on that TV and it showed its resolution as 1920*1080. While that TV is branded as 4k.

I have seen this in a couple of more 4K TVs also.

So what could be happening here?

Interface is rendered at 1080p, videos play at 4K.

You should also really be focusing on the TV's HDR capabilities though. Resolution is second to that. HDR is much more important, but I can't imagine any modern TV not being native 4K.

If the 4K TV was running the Android TV OS the user interface is only 1080p - that is what CPU-Z is reporting.

There is NO 4K user interface with Android TV. It’s all upscaled to 4K - something demanding Android TV users have been complaining about for a few years now. Especially existing Shield users because of it’s poor quality GPU picture upscaling output. ( it’s also why the new 2019 Shield is advertised with “AI” upscaling)

4K Video on the other hand is output natively at 4K
