TCL TV:Play Store not updating. Am I forced to go manual?

Hi all I got a TCL 32ES560, which I recently updated to firmware v190.

Issue started randomly before the update. On my TV I just installed TuneIn as a third-party app and mostly I Chromecast something from my phone from time to time.

I did the usual troubleshooting starting gradually:

  • force update from PS settings
  • restarted device from settings
  • cleared data
  • cleared the cache
  • uninstalled all the updates
  • restored to factory

Once I did that I observed:

  • Play services look like they're updating as expected (on 19.4.20 at the moment)
  • Play Store stuck on v 10.15.10 , Store updated after a check

I tried to manual update using v 11.20 from apkmirror and hoping to fix the issue, no joy, so I threw the towel and installed v.16.7.31.

Am I doomed to do manual updates from now on? I thank you for any help.

If you sideload an app the Google Play Store won't update it if that's what you're asking?

You can force the update by going to the Play Store settings -> about and press on "play store version", at the bottom of the screen you will see a message about updating, don't do anything else, the app will update by itself at any moment.
