Can YouTube be removed?

by TonyIsSocial

Is it possible to completely remove / disable / hide YouTube?

I have a HiSense 65H8F with Android 8.0.0

With the Google family app you can disable anything

Edit: I just realized this is Android TV sub. So I have no idea if this will work. For whatever reason my brain saw only Android, sorry.

You can disable it so it can't be opened. But you can't uninstall it since it's a google system app.

Get youtube kids app if you're worried what the kids will watch.

settings > apps > scroll past regular apps to system apps > youtube > disable

at least on mibox

It's most likely not possible to completely uninstall it since it's probably a built-in system app. However, why would this be necessary?

I actually uninstalled some apps from my ATV device (not YouTube) using my computer through the LAN.

  1. First follow the instructions in this link to install ADB:

  1. Then follow this other instructions to remove the apps:

Android TV - at least on my Shield TV, supports restricted profiles allowing you to control which apps are allowed in that profile as well as pin protecting the unrestricted one.

Have you tried ES File Explorer? It can also remove system apps.. can download from Apitiode

Wouldn't an easier solution be parental lock out codes so they only can watch when you are supervising? Under device preference settings there's an option for security and restrictions. You can create a restricted profile. Perhaps create a kid-friendly profile it is in use most of the time with your adult profile accessible only to you with a pin code.

out of curiosity I created one myself to see what it does and it's as easy as turning on or off applications you wish to be usable by the restricted profile. Perhaps disable YouTube on the restricted profile for your kids.

I just tried this myself and it seems to work wonderfully. You can select a different profile completely needing a PIN code for the original one and when you are not around you can simply change it to the kid-friendly profile and then back to your original profile when it's time for the adults to watch.

Appears to be the perfect solution in my opinion.unless your kids know your PIN code they will not be able to alter it.

not really sure what android box is being used. there are some android version (distros) might have the option to turn off the network or internet for a specific app. try playing around with the youtube application properties :-)

it's not really hiding, removing or uninstalling but it the app, youtube, will not function without the net.
