What are the cheapest Android TV boxes that compete with the Mi Box?

by zakpreto

I want TV box, and I was almost decided to buy the Mi Box as it seemed to fit more than what my needs are, just to find out it doesn't have an sd card slot. Now that, killed the game, and I'm looking into an alternative.

I mostly will use it this way.

  1. Play movies from an SD card (I move it a lot from my smartphone to my PC and vice versa but my PC's screen sucks to watch movies)
  2. Watch Netflix/Kodi
  3. Play games using a USB joystick (another reason why the Mi Box seems unattractive for me. I could very well use an USB stick to extend it's ridiculously tiny internal storage, but once I need to connect a USB joystick or the X360 dongle, where am I going to load games from?)
  4. Won't be playing 4K

That's it. I'd be quite happy to have the Mi Box, it would more than suit my needs if it only had either a 32GB internal storage or an SD card, so I'm not looking into something much more powerful than it.

(and please, no Nvidia Shield, that costs 4x the Mi Box)

Why not use the Mi Box with an external USB Hub/Card Reader? Something like this maybe.

Good luck getting a cheap, legit Android TV certified, Netflix Approved media player with better then 8 or 16GB of storage.

The closest is the MECOOL KM3, it is also NOT - Netflix Approved:

Thet device can also dual boot and run CoreELEC Kodi from a microSDHC card. Kodi Leia also has a Netflix Addon:

May I recommend the omni android box? It has netflix and wifi app built in and a micro sd card slot. It's in eBay for under $25. I have 3. Only downside is sometimes it disconnects from the wifi but a simple plug and unplug fixes that issue
