Cannot connect laptop to Android OLED

by J40NYR

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, I'm becoming so frustrated after spending a load of money on a new Laptop, OLED tv and av receiver.

I connect my laptop with a dongle as the laptop does not have a hdmi port, to the front port of my av receiver, the screen shows for less than a second on the TV before going black.

I have tried connecting a cable directly to the TV, this causes the same problem.

I have tried using different cables, this still causes the same issue.

What do I do? I don't know about you guys but everyday i'm getting more frustrated with basic techie tasks that just don't work.

My specs are as follows, Philips OLED803 - Denon AVRx3500h - HP envy x360 13.3

Thanks all (this is my first post on reddit!)

Likely it's the dongle, or you just need to turn the multi screen setting on in windows.

Probably not the right place, but hope I can help. Try outputting to a different screen, like a monitor or old TV. I've never used a Philips TV that I can recall, but this issue seems to be with how your laptop is handling output.

Use another screen and also try messing with the output quality, switch between 720, 1080, 4k. It might be an issue with one of those.

Can you be specific about what dongle you're using? You say it doesn't have an HDMI port, so what is the dongle connected to? What does it convert from and to? Do you have a brand and model of the dongle?

Yes, as /u/Mykeythebee said, test the laptop with another display, to eliminate the laptop/dongles are sources of the problem.

Also, depending on the reason your connecting the laptop to the TV, the Chromecast Built-In functionality may work as an alternative. You can mirror your laptop's screen to the TV.

What refresh rate are you trying to use on the TV?

JimboLodisC

The Android TV operating system has Chromecast built-in. You can use Chrome to cast your entire screen wirelessly.

But another question is for what purpose? If it's for gaming, then going wired via HDMI is still better and you'll want to get your dongle sorted out. If it's to watch movies/TV then perhaps you should set up Plex or Kodi instead.

Hi guys thanks for your suggestions,

I am wanting to connect the laptop to the TV so that i can view HDR on youtube as the built in app does not show it

The dongle is the offical HP branded one that came boxed with the laptop and it is connected to the USB C port

The refresh rate is set at 60hz

I have connected the laptop to a 'lesser' display and it does output fine, maybe it is a bandwidth issue with usb c to hdmi? Do they call it alternate mode?

Thanks again :)
