Help Me Pick a Device

by popokrew

I read this sub a lot so hopefully you haven't rolled your eyes at another question like this. I have 2 TVs (older 2007/08) that I need to connect up for streaming since I don't have cable. I use Hulu + Live, AT&T NOW, Netflix and I have movies I could play through Plex. As far as ecosystem, on my three other TVs one is an Apple TV and the other two I use built in Samsung Smart TV interface which sucks but its good enough for now. If a new Nvidia box was out, I probably wouldnt even be asking this and would just buy 5 of them to get the whole house on the same system. I have family coming over in 2 weeks so I need something on the 2 older TVs, something cheap preferred. Chromecast doesnt work because I dont want to load the app on their phone and sign in. I was thinking the JBL Link Bar on one of the TVs but that seems to have bad reviews. Any suggestions?

Roku just released a new ultra with upgraded CPU and RAM. I love my Shield TV but Roku is great for being more ecosystem neutral.

Xiaomi Mi Box 3 or Mi Box 3S at $60.

Shield is overpriced for your use case at $190.

How about a Firestick?

Fire TV Stick 4K is the best bang for the buck out there at the moment. Faster vs any of the budget Android TV devices.

Better picture quality as well vs any major brand Android TV media player simply due to its much more modern GPU.

Easily the best wireless remote vs any media player on the market as well.

Avoid at all costs the expensive, buggy JBL Link bar.

That has on old 2016 era AMLogic chipset in it with added HDMI in / out and slow voice control. There is nothing cutting edge in it at all under the skin
