Sideloading usually works fine. But installed a doorbell camera app and Android tv hides it from the home screen. Only way I can get to it is through settings > apps

If you are using the Shield it doesn't work anymore. The fix is coming with the next upgrade or you can enroll in the HotFix program. The link is available on the forum.
I am happy with Sideload Launcher.
