I need suggestions how to mkv to tv

by AdditionalExcitement

I have a 4k hdr TV, I want to play some 4k mkv video files on the TV. I almost bought a Xiaomi mi tv but see it has no Lan support. Then I almost got a cheap h96 android tv box but reviews say rock chip is trash.

So that leaves chromecast ultra which has Lan support but will it play mkv easily?

I wanted a Lan connected box that I coild plug in via USB or pan to play 4k mkv files on my TV

You could just grab any usb to ethernet adaptor and will work with mibox

I'm not sure if this still works or not (I haven't casted movies to my TV in some time now), but with my OG Chromecast, it didn't support .mkv

All I had to do was change the extension from .mkv to .mp4 and Chromecast would play them.

You can also use Videotream for Chromecast, but it will only stream in 1080p : https://getvideostream.com/

Plex can natively play MKV files. Most of the files in my Plex library are MKV and play with no problem in any of their apps.

Are you looking to do this as a serious way to watch content or just as sometimes thing? This would dictate what you should do, as opposed to just what you can do.

High bitrate 4K video content needs Gigabit Ethernet to reliably stream across a home network. Otherwise a direct connected USB Hard has to be used.

There is a LOT of great info over in the Kodi forums about this:

Be aware not all USB adapters are Gigabit.
