Looking for an Android TV box that comes woth the full play store.

by paedtidt

I have a couple of mibox 4's. I am disappointed that I can't install the apps that I want onto it.

I bought a couple of other boxes and still the same.

I have 2 Samsung TVs. But they are both rubbish for the built in android.

Is there an android TV box that has the full play store on it. I don't care about spending money.

I really want a webcam and Samsung does not have them anymore..

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Android that isn't designed for a TV can be really painful to use; heaps of apps won't even rotate for landscape.

You best option is side load the apps you want; APK Mirror has almost everything from the full store. It's a gamble if they'll run and you'll most likely need a mouse to navigate.

Android and Android TV are not the same.

If your player is of the 'true' Android TV system, it is NOT designed to be readily used with a mouse. Therefore ANY app which requires a mouse to navigate around it won't be available on the full Play Store version for the 'official' Android TV system.

But stores such as "Aptoide" which you can install on an Android TV system (Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box etc) will provide access for you to most of these additional apps you may want. But when you install them, you will need a mouse to be able to navigate around them.

"Mouse Toggle" is an app you can install on a 'true' Android TV Box which can give you the use of a mouse on any 'official' Android TV box (Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box etc).

Why not install aptoide? It has all the apps from the playstore. just side load it and you're good to go. I have a mi box 3 and it works fine.

I suggest you checkout the new Ugoos Am6 that has a powerful AMLogic S922X chipset in it:

https://androidpctv.com/review-ugoos-am6-opinion/

Has the "full Playstore" and the Ugoos guys seem like they actually care bout after sales Firmware support and bug busting updates.

A MINIX A2 lite mini keyboard air mouse remote is a good companion for such devices.

Downside = not DRM keys so copy protected, paid for video streaming support for HD video will be spotty.

  1. I thought the Mi Box 4 had Android TV on it, which means you should be able to hop on a PC and browse the Play Store for apps to install.
  2. Samsung TVs do not have Android on them. If they did, it's still a smart TV and would be rubbish because the CPU's in TVs are shit. Those TVs are likely running a version of Tizen.
  3. The curated Play Store app on the Shield and Mi Box won't show you all the apps you can install. You hop on a PC to browse them all.
  4. "I really want a webcam and Samsung does not have them anymore.." I don't see how this sentence belongs anywhere in this post.

There are many different consoles. I found such a site for myself SwitchOnShop Where just everything can be bought. The benefit of adequate prices and a large selection

I had (still have, actually) a X96 Max updated to Android Pie with 'regular Android'. But without an air mouse you will have problems in many apps.

With a mouse it's great can recommend.

Thanks. I will do that. Was a bit sceptical as I don't know it but seems a lot of people recommend it.

Android 'TV Box' (what you want) is not the same as 'Android TV' Box (what you have, which HAS the full Play Store for 'Android TV' not plain 'Android').

Android 'TV Box' devices are not covered in this subreddit.

Just to verify, does the mi box s not have the possibility of the full official play store?

My friend's started using the new X96 max plus tv box and he says the quality is pretty good.

I bought mine TV box on SwitchOnShop (MAG420 Premium IPTV+OTT Set-Top Box) and I really like it!
