Please help my Mi Box S (4) with its Adopted Storage

by logg3

High!

Well, im messing around with my Mi Box for a couple of hours and reading alot of information about the limitation of write access on an external SD card. So i have choosen to adopt the card as internal storage. It worked but i did not choose to move files to it when prompted, as i first want to see what exactly happened.

So i opened FX File Browser and figured out nothing changed in the folder stucture. Well yes, the External Storage is gone and the sdcard mount still points to the internal storage and it says only 5gb are free of space, which is the internal memory. So the card is adopted as storage but the storage is not increased?!

Also the mountpoint from the sdcard when it was external storage is gone. I actually cant find any trace of the sd card anymore, neiter as internal nor as external storage. But i saw that there is a new mount in /mnt/expand/ but i cant access this directory because i have no permission.

So what i am doing wrong or what i am not understanding? Did i miss the whole point of internal storage, when its actually not increasing my storage?!

Please help us!!

You probably should choose "Yes" when it prompts to move files on internal storage. You can just go back to "Settings-> Storage & reset", click on the USB device you use as adoptable storage, and choose "Forget". Then you can start the whole thing again. Each device is only allowed to use 1 USB drive as adoptable storage.

i have 2 addon questions if somembody still reading this :)

  1. I saw that the Nvidia Shield has managed to add a directory on the SDCard which is actually writeable for all apps. IS this Shield exclusive or can it be done with other Boxes like the Mi Box too? (maybe some adb commands)

  2. Is it a known bug on the Mi Box S that it cannot format an adopted SD back to an external one? It fails with an error and i have to reformat using my laptop.

dunno how you can recover your sd card but if you do, the solution i found is as follows:

an app called airexchange allows you to access your tv box over your wi-fi and do anything you need, download, delete, move...this is the only and easiest way i found to transfer files from my mi box 4 to my pc. might help. just download and follow the instructions, super easy to use.
