Getting stock Android TV on AT&T Set top beta box

by FriedTorchic

I was part of AT&T/DirecTV Now's beta program and was sent a free beta version of their Android TV Set top box filled with their own flavor of Android TV. The thing is that at the end of the month I will be canceling my subscription to DirecTV/AT&T Now. I am not sure my box would still work for other things like Netflix as it currently does, so I am wondering if there is a way to load Stock Android TV on this box. In theory it should be capable to. Thanks in advance.

Mine stopped working when I canceled directnow. Would be nice to get android TV on this. Otherwise it will just collect dust.

This is not a computer, it's not like reinstalling Windows. Even if you somehow unlock the bootloader, building an AOSP Android TV image is a significant undertaking, and may not be possible to do perfectly, if there is a driver blob that isn't published by ATT.

How about you disable AT&T TV app from ADB Command and see what happens. Before doing that install 'Android TV Home' and 'Android TV Core Services' if they are not preinstalled. (also via ADB)

Won't they want the box back?

I don't think so, right guys?? Bc jpu like the normal AOSP mobile Andeoid, they locked down Wear OS, Android TV and Android Auto to only for the OEMs only right?? Kind of a shared source format just like Windows??

Can anybody confirm this??

Lol I want just the opposite. I have an Osprey box and two nVidia Shield TVs... I wish I could install the Osprey Android OS version on one of the shield TVs.

I love how it works like a standard cable STB and accepts numerical channel input.
