I'm really at a loss at this point. I have an X900E TV that used to have a function to type in a keyboard from the remote control. I changed the password for my Google account and that prompted my TV to ask me to sign in again. When I got to the prompt to enter the password the TV told me to "Use your mobile device keyboard".
So I use the remote control on my phone (which I never use and don't really plan on using) and this app won't even let me type anything! I select the keyboard option and absolutely nothing pops up on the screen.
I google the problem and it tells me to go to Settings->System Preferences->Keyboard on the TV and to select "Current Keyboard" and change that to some different type. The problem is that there are no options whatsoever under Current Keyboard . It's just completely empty. See this:
If you look at the "Manage Keyboards" section the Gboard and the Virtual Remote Keyboard are greyed out, with the latter being permanently enabled. I can't do a damn thing about it here apparently.
Luckily I had a USB keyboard laying around and, feeling like we've taken steps back a few decades in order to be "connected" to every device we own and like a neanderthal, I enter the new password with this keyboard.
The problem is I don't want to have to use a physical keyboard to enter things into my TV! Reasonable request right?
Has anyone had this problem before? I'm at my wit's end to be honest. This is beyond ridiculous.
Try Keyboard for Android TV from NDC Solutions. Look for it in Play Store. After it's installed, go to settings, keyboards, manage keyboards and select. After that current keyboards should say Android TV Keyboard.
In YouTube or Play Store if you do a search you'll need to go right on d-pad to make keyboard pop up. Passwords entry, keyboard will pop up on it's own.
